Please avoid using this code - it is completely unsecure.  If you want to authenticate directly against a CRM contact record, you can use the commercial version of the portals from Adxstudio.  Also note that the next version of the portals will be shipping with support of Azure ACS, which allows customers to authenticate with Google, Yahoo, Live ID, Facebook, or any federated identity provider.

I agree it's not a best practice and yous hould avoid it in production, but It's easier for testing, when your testing environment isn't available outside your intranet.

This code is mainly for internal use.

For internal use, use Active Directory membership provider.  My blog site has the portals already configured in this manner:  http://www.shanmcarthur.net/crm/crm2011-articles/customer-portal-modifications

I know. I've reference to your blog in mine.. :)

It's just another option and i'm finding it, so are my coworkers which the request came from them, more convenient.

I know people are looking for such a solution so i've published it.
